Skyward Glances & the Love in my Food

Recently, a good friend and coworker offered to lend me a copy of Women Food and God.  Also living a gluten-free, dairy-free life, she said that the things I say and write are in the same 'voice' as the author, Geneen Roth, and she thought I would enjoy it.  Always happy to find another kindred spirit, even if indirectly through the dog-eared, well-worn pages of a book, I happily accepted the offer.

On the back cover, Roth writes, "No matter how sophisticated or wealthy or broke or enlightened you are, how you eat tells all."

While I have yet to actually open the pages, in just reading that, I knew exactly what my friend meant.

Now don't worry, this isn't going to be a book review.  It's actually going to be a photo post.  The seed was planted while reviewing my Instagram account, which is almost entirely photos of food, flowers, or the sky, which made me think of the book.  Those things inspire me so deeply - I've been drawn to them for as long as I can remember.  But it wasn't it until recently that I decided to try capturing what I see, sharing it, and hopefully releasing that inspiration back into the Universe.  Whether it's my kitchen creations, a blossom kissed with rain, or the clouds congregating around a setting sun, my motivation & joy in photographing them is the same.

In all of those things I find food for my soul.  In their beauty, both extraordinary and everyday.

So on this first day of my birth month, here are some recent photos of mine through the eyes of Instagram.

Refusing to wilt in the Texas heat.

Peach & strawberry cobbler topped with basil-lemon biscuits.

The Frost Tower standing tall in downtown Austin.

A rare self-portrait.  I like the light.

Broken wings.

Lunch at The Steeping Room.

Storm teasing us from the east.

The bee that flew into frame unannounced...
